TD-SCDMA Trial Network in Beijing 2001 "In August 2000 we succeeded in transmitting high data rate IP traffic over TDD. For the purpose of the demonstration, a video stream was used, signifying the world’s first video transmission over TDD [in a testbed]. Throughout 2001, we continued to demonstrate the capabilities of 3G wideband communications technology to mobile network operators around the world, including the USA, Dubai and Russia. At an exhibition in Cannes, the testbed was used to demonstrate 3G communications between a ship and the mainland. The testbed is now being adapted for an aircraft environment and it has already flown successfully, showing for the first time how 3G could be used to improve security and enhance air traffic management, airline operations and passenger services." |
